Belgaum: 3 leopards have been sighted around Belgaum. CCTV footage shows one leopard carrying away a sleeping calf in Dharmatti village, mudalgi. Last week one more leopard was sighted in yeddurwadi.
Deer was sighted in Bhutramatti village this afternoon. The people created ruckus which scared the innocent animal who frantically ran away from the village.
The leopard sighted in jadhav nagar Belgaum still remains elusive. Combing operations are on in the golf course. Nearly 50 forest personnel from Bhimgad and Dandeli have been pressed into service.
Movement video cameras and camera trap have been set up in the race course. The camera trap caught a picture of leopard 3 days ago after that it was not sighted. Yesterday drones were used to check on the movement of the leopard but the leopard remained elusive.
It’s been 8 days the operation is still on.
Meanwhile 21 schools remain closed due to the leopard scare. The forest department is very keen to catch the leopard alive if it is sighted and release it back into the wild.
The sightings of leopards have increased which indicates their population has increased. People should be cautious and roam around in groups and not leave children outside in the areas where leopard was sighted.
