Belgaum is now on world news. Thanks to the leopard who has made Belgaum city its residence.
It has been a month since the leopard first appeared in jadhav nagar Belgaum. Since then it has been evading humans by hiding in and around golf course.
Since then, it has been spotted a few times around a golf course in the city, triggering panic among residents.
No sightings or pug marks have been reported by forest department from the past 8 days which is keeping a strong vigil in and around golf course 24/7.
Currently combing operations have been stalled but wildlife staff are keeping an eye and checking the camera trap for clues of the elusive leopard.
Steps were taken to nab the leopard some of which were as per the standard operating procedures but most of the other steps were not needed which were based on knee jerk reaction.
There was mounting pressure from public and the administration over the forest department to nab the leopard.
The authorities and the public want quick results, so we’ve been pushed to try new experiments or make incremental changes in our operations every day.
But to catch a leopard, there should be very little human intervention and a lot of peace and quiet says wildlife biologist sanjay Gubbi who been studying Leopards for over a decade.
Elephants Arjun and Aale from sakrebail are inside the golf course along with the forest staff from August 24 but they too have not been of much help.
