Belgaumites did not come out in huge numbers to cast their vote. Overall percentage of voting stands around 50.41% .
Belgaum including Hubli-Dharwad district, has over 17 lakh voters who will decide the future of 1,105 nominees, The counting of votes will take place on September 6. The previous election was held on March 07, 2013.
Fate of 385 candidates vying for the 58 wards was sealed in the ballot box as the to the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC).
A total of 2,17,160 voters comprising of ,13,396 male & 1,03,764 female voters (50.41%) exercised their franchise to vote as a very low turnout was witnessed in some wards.
The candidates and their ‘karyakartas’ had to visit door to door to get the voters to the polling booths. However, missing names in the voter’s list, influencing the voters, were reported from across many localities.
The voting that commenced at 7 am ended at 6 pm. A total of 415 polling stations were set up in 58 wards of BCC. Though strict instructions, the COVID19 guidelines were not followed at the polling stations as Deputy Commissioner MG Hiremath maintained a close vigil at most of the polling booths.
